Hackathon Space Apps Challenge in HTP

25 April 2016

On April 22-24, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) gathered programmers and UI-designers, physicists, mathematicians, astronomers, and robotics engineers to find innovative solutions to the global challenges using an open API.

Space Apps Challenge was hosted by the HTP business incubator and was attended by over 200 people.

Space Apps Challenge offered challenges in six categories: Technology; Aeronautics; Space Station; Solar System; Earth; Journey to Mars.

Tasks differed in complexity, for example, creating a jetpack to Mars, or developing new types of suits for work in space. After 48 hours of intensive work, 20 projects were completed. The judges determined two finalists:

S3.14STEROID team developed an approach to analyze characteristics and composition of asteroids, and to use asteroids for obtaining different materials. The project is based on calculations of changes in the orbits of asteroids as well as their delivery to Earth.

Space Herdsmans team developed a mobile app prototype enabling cattlemen to obtain the necessary information about sources of water, pasture condition, and epidemiological situation as well as to assist communities in networking.
