Director of Belarus HTP Elected as Member of Strategy Council of UN Global Alliance for ICT and Development

Dr. Valery Tsepkalo, Director of Belarus Hi-Tech Park has been elected a member of the Strategy Council of the United Nations Global Alliance for ICT and Development.

The Global Alliance was established on the initiative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in March 2006 to meet the need for an inclusive, multi-stakeholder forum and platform for policy dialogue and partnership-building, to practically implement the results of the World Summit on the Information Society and to promote the use of ICT for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The Global Alliance deals with key issues related to the role of ICT and innovation in the economic development, minimization of the financial crisis, unemployment reduction, poverty eradication and climate change challenges. Special emphasis is made on the issues in education, healthcare and youth policy.

The Alliance is managed by the Strategy Council. The members of the Strategy Council are representatives of governmental, business, international and public organizations.

The tasks of the Strategy Council include the determination of development priorities and ways of ICT use for addressing the above-mentioned issues, promotion of the usage of the strategy and implementation of top experience developed by the Alliance both on a national and international basis.
