Over 1,500 Belarusian school students in grades 1-4 sent their artworks to the Hi-Tech Park to participate in the drawing competition Science Through Childrens Eyes. In pencil, oil, gouache, watercolor, pastel, sanguine, and crayon, on grains, using salt dough ornaments and origami – children tried to find answers to difficult questions: Who are scientists? What are they like? Are they mysterious, queer, unusual, or just like all of us? Other works depicted the world of incredible scientific discoveries.

In accordance with the contest requirements, each artwork should contain a short description. Here are some abstracts created by young artists:

"For me, a scientist is a man of advanced years who has devoted several decades to science and remains faithful to his ideas, plans and discoveries; he tries to bring his work to successful completion and leave a legacy for future generations."

"I wanted to depict a scientist who is working at the Hi-Tech Park and developing new programs and powerful machines… Day time is not enough for such people, therefore, they often work at night."

Angelina Prigozhaya, 10 years old

"I imagine a scientist as a woman, as they are gentle, kind, caring, like my mommy… Scientists take care of all living things on the earth and make everybodys life better and more interesting."

"Scientists are very unusual. They are always remarkable and interesting. I wanted to draw the inner world of a true scientist."

"…Scientists are extraordinary people. Their discoveries drive the progress. And how much strength, knowledge, and patience, how many sleepless nights it takes to make a discovery! It is great that there are such people! My dream is to become a scientist and make scientific discoveries, too…"

"Scientists are like all of us. Like anyone else, they try to lead an interesting life. Their interests, however, differ from those of the most people. Scientists want to discover, obtain, and study something new for all their lives."

"The scientist is a very good and smart person. He reads a lot and knows a lot. I think, it is a man, he wears glasses and looks thoughtfully into the distance. My scientist needs to be kind and cheerful… All genius discoveries are peaceful and bring happiness. If every scientist is like that, everyone will be happy. Maybe it will happen this year? And maybe not… But it is sure to be so!"
