Belarusian Automated Fare Collection System Presented at the International Conference in France

22 October 2014

Automated Fare Collection (AFC) system developed by IBA Group was presented at the Smart Ticketing & Transport (Billettique et Transports) conference held on September 29-30, 2014 in Paris, France. The system was implemented in Minsk by the state-run transport enterprise Minsktrans in 2014, thus fully replacing the older paper ticketing system with a modern electronic one.

Based on the L3 Mifare Plus technology, the system is currently operated in 2,500 vehicles (buses, trolleybuses and trams), Minsk metro and urban lines of the Belarusian Railways. The AFC acceptance infrastructure comprises 20,000 devices (card validators, paper ticket validators, on-board computers, inspector terminals, etc.). IBA Group also developed the hardware needed for the AFC system.

The point of sale (POS) network consists of 400 devices – bank POS-terminals for smart cards, and 400 inspector terminals – hand-held smart card readers used to check fares in public transport.

In its 15th year, the Smart Ticketing & Transport conference covered issues related to the country-level integration of payment systems and the support for new payment channels; the latest developments in fare collection systems for cities using smart cards were also presented there. In addition, participants of the event discussed the use of innovative services and multi-function cards.

The IBA AFC system automates all payment processes in transport organizations and can also be integrated with other information systems. The project is unique in Eastern Europe and one of the best in the world.
