EPAM Launches Garage Kids

19 July 2016

The HTP resident-company EPAM Systems is launching a new advanced course in software engineering for employees' children – Garage Kids. To be selected for the course, 148 children – participants of the E-kids program – passed entrance tests and competed in the EPAM Kids Hackathon; 26 of them will study in the Garage.

The organizers and trainers are focused on helping students understand the basics of logic, giving practical knowledge in mathematics, physics and mechanics, and teaching children teamwork and public speaking. In the future, the children studying in the Garage will be able to act as trainers and participate in the development of the educational process.

EPAM trainers use different construction sets, such as Lego Mindstorms and Snap Circuits, as they allow creating quite complex prototypes and meanwhile study the principles of mechanics and electronics.

It is very important that children will have the opportunity to try different roles – programmer, designer, tester, manager – and choose the one they like best.

Dmitry Orekhov, one of the trainers, believes: "The most significant objective of the program is to build the environment of continuous education in EPAM, a kind of the Platonic Academy. There are many talented people, great professionals in EPAM who can teach children and learn from each other."
