HTP Hosts Meeting With Representatives of IT Community, Prosecutor General's Office, and Other Law Enforcement Agencies

The Hi-Tech Park hosted a round-table meeting addressing legal aspects of the digital economy development.

"Achievement of objectives set by the head of state as well as solution of tasks concerning safe functioning and legal protection of the parties involved in modern financial technologies is only possible through joint coordinated actions based on trust and a dialogue," underlined Prosecutor General Aleksandr Konyuk.

"It has been a lively and friendly discussion. A direct, honest dialogue. The conversation is really significant as we all understand that any, even the best decree may be negated by application practices. The today's meeting has demonstrated the unanimity of the IT community and law enforcement officials that the law enforcement practice should fully comply with not just the law but also the spirit of the presidential decree on digital economy development. This is one of the key conditions for its success", noted Vsevolod Yanchevsky,Belarus Hi-Tech Park Director.

The meeting gathered representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office, the State Secretariat of the Security Council, the State Security Committee, the Operational and Analytical Center under the Belarus President, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Bank, the State Control Committee, and the Ministry of Communications and Informatization as well as recognized members of the IT community, including IT entrepreneurs Viktor Prokopenya and Dmitry Gurski, Country Manager of Belarus at Microsoft Anton Myakishev, member of the Entrepreneurship Development Council Denis Aleinikov, and businessman Oleg Khusaenov.

The meeting was held in the form of an open dialogue to address some issues regarding Decree No.8 "On Digital Economy Development". The participants shared their opinions on copyright protection for computer programs, involvement of Belarusian IT community in responding to cyber attacks, creation of Belarusian cutting-edge cryptographic protection systems, and development of common approaches designed to protect the citizens fromcrypto fraud. As a result, it was agreed to create an expert working group to ensure legal, effective and transparent operation of IT businesses and security of the citizens considering the new legal conditions effective in the country since March 28, 2018.
