HTP Resident Company Applied Systems Presented a System for Automating all Routine Testing Activities in Barcelona

11 November 2011

HTP resident, Applied Systems Ltd., expert in the field of automation software, presented a system for automating all routine testing activities at The Third International Conference on Advances in System Testing and Validation Lifecycle (VALID 2011), held on the 23rd – 29th of October, 2011 in Barcelona, Spain.

Valery Safronau and Vitalina Turlo, Applied Systems Ltd., presented a solutiondesigned to tackle a very common problem in automated testing, that is the abundance of routine manual activities associated with this process.

In fact, the use of the term “automated testing” in the IT industry is often misleading as it generally refers only to running automated test scripts.
At the same time, a number of routine activities related to test execution, such as setting up testing environment, launching tests, reporting defects in a bug tracking system, generating reports are carried out manually by testers. The proper name for such automation is “quasi-automation”. Achieving real automation of these routine tasks will help IT organizations to gain great efficiency.

Applied Systems Ltd. has found the solution – a system for automated testing control, which enables the automation of all testing-relating activities. In the conference paper the company presents sample interfaces, the system architecture, key system components, and interactions between them and their functionality. This software system works as a “black box”: newly produced builds enter into the system, and then the system performs a sequence of operations: prepares the environment, launches tests, submits defects to a bug-tracking system, and generates a uniform report on all passed tests. The idea is based on the integration of customer’s testing tools under a common UI via their APIs, namely file server, build machine, versioning control system, virtualization server, bug tracking system, and test automation tools.
