Alexander Lukashenko: IT Sphere to Become a Matter of Closer Attention

Development of IT sphere should become a matter of closer attention in Belarus, claimed the President of the country Alexander Lukashenko during his visit to Belarus State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, the leading IT university.

Rector of the university informed the Head of the country that equipment at BSUIR has greatly improved recently. Implemented modern technologies help to improve the quality of education greatly. Mr. Lukashenko touched upon the issue of tuition fee and showed his concern about it being too high. He also agreed that universities should use sponsors’ money at their own discretion.

In particular, the President visited the Department of Computer Systems and Networks, talked to the students and professors. According to 2010 survey, graduates of this department are most popular among Hi-Tech Park resident-companies as potential employees. There are 11 R&D labs, opened with the help of IBA, EPAM, Itransition and others.

In 2012-2013 there are 15.8 thousand students studying at BSUIR. In 2009 it became the first Belarusian university to provide education in English.
