Winners of The First Educational Scratch Hackathon Are Chosen

12 February 2018

On February 10-11 the final stage of the open competition for teachers Scratch Master was held in the Hi-Tech Park in Minsk.

For the first time in Belarus the final of the competition was held in the form of an educational hackathon on the theme “Blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies”.

Alexander Martinkevich, Deputy Director of the Hi-Tech Park Administration: “This field of expertise is a kind of "terra incognito" for teachers and parents. Today the majority of children have already become real digital natives in the world of cryptocurrencies while adults still remain digital immigrants. This hackathon became the first Park’s educational event to acquaint school teachers with the basics of a new economy based on blockchain technology”.

At the first stage of the competition more than 100 individual projects of the teachers who conduct elective classes in Scratch programming environment were presented. Upon the Jury's decision 15 teachers reached the final.

5 teams were formed during the hackathon. They tried to develop educational projects in Scratch programming environment in 8 hours. The purpose was to explain to parents and fellow teachers clearly and simply what blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies are.

Project review was held on February 11 in the Hi-Tech Park business incubator.
