BSU Students Won Three Medals at the International Mathematics Competition for University Students in Bulgaria

Students of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science of the Belarusian State University (BSU) won three medals at the 20th International Mathematics Competition for University Students which concluded on August 12 in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria. More than 300 students from over 35 countries took part in the competition this year. Belarus was represented only by the BSU team.

A third-year student Sergei Finsky won a gold medal. Silver medals went to Vladislav Stazhinsky, a third-year student, and Artyom Govorov, a fourth-year student.

BSU Students have participated in the International Mathematics Competition for University Students since 2001 and won 37 gold, 30 silver and 5 bronze medals.

The International Mathematics Competition for University Students was first held in 1994. Hundreds of undergraduate students from all over the world take part in the competition. During two days the competitors have to solve 10 problems from the fields of Mathematical Analysis, Algebra (Linear and Abstract), Functional Analysis, Analytic Geometry, Combinatorics and Number Theory. The working language is English.
